‘Lesbo-Terrorist’ Raps How-To Song For Safe Abortion

First there was a feminist punk rock movement known as “Riot grrrl;” now there’s a feminist rapper whose lyrics could literally start a riot. Mexican rapper Luisa Velázquez, who goes by “Menstruadora” (Menstrator), just released a rap song aimed at women who want to terminate unwanted pregnancies.

The song is a lyrical act of rebellion by the 26-year-old self-proclaimed “lesboterrorist” considering the majority of Mexico’s 32 states have criminalized elective abortions (therapeutic abortion is allowed everywhere in Mexico).

Velázquez says she had always been discreet when helping women seek abortions. But then she saw something that inspired her to speak out — or sing out, as the case may be.

“I saw a Mexican feminist organization called “Las Libres” publicly sharing information about Misoprostol in Guanajuato, a state where abortion is illegal; I decided to join this kind of campaign to raise awareness about women’s right to choose,” Velázquez told Fusion in an e-mail interview from Mexico City.

“With this song I exercise my right to freedom of expression and, of course, I invite women to exercise their right to access information and make decisions about their own body,” said the activist rapper.

The Spanish-language rap song is “instructional” but also an anthem to empower women in a society that criminalizes their right to choose.

Here’s a bit from “Rap to Abort.”

“This is a rap for abortions, it’ll work for 8 out of 10, you can try it, it’s effective; are we all ready? We will abort!,” Velázquez raps.

“Misoprostol is the name of the medicine, You can get it without a prescription at pharmacies; Remember this is a right for you; And this is a feminist song for me,” Velázquez goes on to say.

Mexico City became the first of the 32 Mexican states to legalize elective abortions in 2007, but women are only allowed to get terminate pregnancies during the first 12-weeks of gestation. Since then 17 Mexican states have modified their constitutions to criminalize abortions. All states permit abortion in the case of rape; however, out of 120 women who filed appeals from 2007 to 2012, only 39 were able to legally obtain abortions.

Women who become ill after Misoprostol and seek medical attention at hospitals can also end up in handcuffs, according to reports from GIRE.

Velázquez says Misoprostol works.

“I know misoprostol well; it’s safe and is the same (drug) used in several feminist organizations in Latin America. I used it myself a couple of years ago and it worked perfectly. I now share my experience with women from different states in Mexico and the result so far has been successful,” Velázquez said.

According to the World Health Organization limited evidence suggests the safety and effectiveness of a regimen with repeated doses of misoprostol between 9 and 12 weeks of gestation; however, Misoprostol alone is less effective than its use in
combination with mifepristone, widely known as the “abortion pill,” RU 486.

It is recommended that women consult a doctor before using Misoprostol, a drug that is available over-the-counter in some countries and used to prevent stomach ulcers. For more information on the drug, click HERE.

Here’s a sample of some of the lyrics to Velázquez’s new rap song:

This is a rap for abortions
It’ll work for 8 out of 10

You can try it, it’s effective
Are we all ready? We will abort!

Misoprostol is the name of the medicine
You can get it without a prescription at pharmacies
Remember this is a right for you
And this is a feminist song for me

And now your body will liberate
After some symptoms: happiness
Let’s abort, we will abort
patriarchy will not dominate us

Remember this is a right for you
And this is a feminist song for me
Let’s abort, we will abort
patriarchy will not dominate us

Check symptoms carefully
Abortions with medicine are a great option
Read carefully and you will have a solution

To be honest, I more than abort
I recommend lesbian sex to fly
Pleasure without end and without drawdowns
I’m just saying, I’m just saying, to consider

Remember this is a right for you
And this is a feminist song for me
For us, for you and my dead grandmothers
My sisters and my mother, I think of all them

For decades women were forced to give birth
Mothers, the kitchen, violence and resist
I decide to break, I decide lesbianism
and with that I abort the patriarchal system

Remember this is a right for you
And this is a lesbofeminist song for me
For us, for you and my dead grandmothers
My sisters and my mother, I think of all them

When I was hetero (heterosexual), I used the medicine
It worked as you’ll see, and I have no regrets
Let’s abort, we will abort, this hetero-patriacal system
