I love it when dope-ass women get together to do dope-ass things. According to Women And Hollywood (via Deadline Hollywood), Marisa Tomei is set to star in a miniseries about Gloria Steinem and the first days of Ms. Magazine. She's also going to produce the show with co-star Kathy Najimy, who will play Steinem's friend, collaborator, and wearer of tremendous hats, Bella Abzug.
Steinem founded the magazine along with Letty Cottin Pogrebin, Mary Peacock, Mary Thom, Patricia Carbine, and Nina Finkelstein, Joanne Edgar; it was first featured in as a New York magazine insert, and the first stand alone issue premiered in January 1972. Steinem and her crew ushered in second wave feminism, but were also under intense scrutiny during that time; Steinem is pretty, so some people accused her of trying to give feminism a "sexy" makeover.
The once monthly magazine is now published quarterly; they've been ad-free since 1989 and are still going strong.
