Every year the government of Mexico City implements a voluntary disarmament program to promote weapons-free neighborhoods. The program is simple: swap your gun for a tablet, laptop, cash or other items. No questions asked.

The program also allows kids to trade in "war toys" such as plastic pistols for other toys that promote learning.

This year's weapons exchange program, which takes place during the first two weeks of September, has already collected 730 handguns, 203 long firearms, 121 grenades, and more than 6,000 cartridges. All the collected weapons are destroyed, even if they're relics.
