Despite Michael Jordan's advancing age (he's now 52), he's somehow managed to stay "cool" in popular discourse, probably thanks to his presence as a lyric on every single rap song and his Air Jordan shoe brand. It was an unprecedented run for a guy who retired from the NBA over 10 years ago, but now it's over, after this disrespectful teen hit him with the "WHAT ARE THOOOOOOSE?" while giving a speech to some kids at a youth basketball camp.
"WHAT ARE THOOOOOOOSE?" is a meme all the teens are using these days. It's big on Vine, and it roughly means "your shoes are lame." Example:
Brutal. Poor Michael Jordan. He's perhaps the most venerated athlete of our time, a synonym for greatness, and here he's reduced to the object of a viral video. This teen knew what he was doing. Check the Twitter replies—almost immediately after posting the video at 9:39 p.m. PDT, he and his friend at-replied Bleacher Report, ESPN, Complex, and Sole Collector. 5 minutes later!
He tried to recover, explaining what "those" were after consulting someone, but it's clear that it's the end for old man Michael Jordan. "WHAT ARE THOOOOOOOSE?" is now cooler than you. What an age we live in. What a time to be alive.
