Miss Peru Contestants Use Beauty Pageant to Call Out Violence Against Women

Peru has the second-highest rate of violence against women in all of South America. To highlight their country’s failure to protect women from rape, assault, and abuse, contestants at this year’s Miss Peru beauty pageant dispensed with listing their body measurements and instead used their time on stage to call out some of the most chilling statistics about Peru’s gender-based violence.
