Facebook screen capture - Gainesville police department

Officer Michael Hamill has been suspended from the Gainesville Police Department after a series of viciously anti-semitic comments posted to Facebook by Hamill were brought to the department’s attention this week.

Hamill, bafflingly dubbed a “hot cop” despite the fact that he is 48% chin, first gained national attention after posing for a selfie with two other officers in a picture posted to—and since deleted from—the GPD Facebook page. Almost immediately, Hamill and co. became internet sensations, with one commenter writing:

The hunkapotumus is a rare, elusive, and mythical creature. Here we are lucky to see 3 huddled together in the wake of Hurricane Irma. I’m a well trained hunkapotumus handler. Send them my way and they will be well taken care of.

It’s unclear what this commenter was talking about, because Hamill is decidedly “meh” looking, while the other two officers are more of an “eh” and a “uh...” respectively.

But, as is the way of the internet, the good times were not meant to last, and those overlooking the fact that Hamill was both not that good looking, and also a freaking cop, were soon forced to contend with the fact that he’d said some pretty fucking awful things about Jews. Things like:

Still, being a cop—even a mediocre looking one with a horrible racist streak—has its perks. On Friday, the GPD announced an investigation into Hamill’s documented anti-semitism, adding that he was being “suspended with pay” in the meantime.

Hamill has yet to make any public remarks about his anti-Semitic past, but being suspended while still collecting a paycheck should give him plenty of time to think things over.
