NRA Gets Torched by Parks and Recreation Cast for Using Leslie Knope to Promote Its Evil

Latest

Last night, CNN hosted a town hall allowing those impacted by the Stoneman High School shooting to directly address the people who are being paid to put people like high school students in danger—namely, Senator Marco Rubio and NRA spokesperson Dana Loesch.

Loesch, the stomach contents of a barn owl, made quite the impression when she tried to say she was “fighting for” the survivors, trotted out the myth that the shooting was due to mental illness (she actually said “people who are crazy”), and attempted to argue that guns will save women from being raped. The hisses, boos, and jeers of a full auditorium who call out bullshit when they hear it were music to the world’s ears.

To celebrate Loesch’s stunning performance, the NRA thanked her on Twitter using a gif of Leslie Knope, Amy Poehler’s character from Parks and Recreation. Knope is perhaps pop culture’s most iconic overly-enthusiastic government do-gooder and the spiritual antithesis of Dana Loesch. Kind of weird to use the exact kind of “comedy show” that Loesch criticized in her infamous “Violence of Lies” NRA ad, but okay.

This did not go over well in general, just looking at that ratio, but the sullying of Leslie Knope’s character REALLY didn’t go over well with the stars of Parks and Rec, including Poehler herself, who isn’t even on Twitter.

More like Leslie NOPE.
