Oh God

Supreme Court

The Supreme Court announced Friday that 85-year-old Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has undergone a procedure to remove two cancerous nodules from her left lung.

The cancer was discovered last month, when Ginsburg was treated for rib fractures suffered from a fall at her office on November 7. According to the statement, “there was no evidence of any remaining disease,” and no further treatment is currently planned. Ginsburg, per the statement, is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days.

This is Ginsburg’s third brush with cancer. She was diagnosed with colon cancer in 1999, and pancreatic cancer in 2009. She beat it both times, and according to NPR, has never missed a day of oral arguments.

Ginsburg is one of the four liberal members of the Supreme Court remaining; after supposed moderate Anthony Kennedy’s retirement earlier this year and replacement by right-wing justice and accused serial assaulter Brett Kavanaugh, the court is in a more precarious state than ever.

In other words: Please do not fucking die on us, Ruth.
