Oye, Trump: Mexico will never pay for your 'stupid wall,' says former president

Former Mexican President Felipe Calderon says Donald Trump is going to have to look elsewhere to finance his proposed border wall.

“Mexican people, we are not going to pay a single cent for such a stupid wall,” Calderon said in a recent interview with CNBC, in which he described Trump’s wall plans as “completely useless.”

“The first loser of such a policy would be the United States,” said Calderon. “If this guy pretends that closing the borders to anywhere either for trade (or) for people is going to provide prosperity to the United States, he is completely crazy.”

Calderon, who was Mexico’s president from 2006 to 2012, pointed to recent data that shows Mexican immigration to the United States is declining. He appeared to be referring to a Pew Research Center report that indicated that Mexican immigration has reversed in recent years, with more Mexicans leaving the U.S. than entering.

Calderon questioned whether Trump is even fit to run for office. He said it’s “incredible” that the United States, at this stage in its democracy, could even produce such a candidate.

“I cannot understand that,” Calderon said.”No offense, no offense to America. Donald Trump … is ambitious but not exactly a very well-informed man. I don’t want to say (he’s) ignorant, but he is not very well-informed.”
