Report: Freddie Gray's mother attempted suicide

Latest

CBS Baltimore has confirmed with “multiple sources” that Gloria Darden, the mother of Freddie Gray (who died while in Baltimore police custody in April, sparking nationwide protests) attempted suicide late Wednesday night.

Police, CBS Baltimore reports, responded to a call “for a person needing medical attention” around 9:35 p.m. Wednesday. Darden—who suffered “superficial injuries,” the station writes—was transported to the hospital with no need for surgery or stitches, and that she’s currently undergoing a psychiatric test.

Gray’s family was awarded a $6.4 million settlement from the city in September following the 25-year-old’s unlawful arrest and eventual death.
