Republican Senator Accidentally Reveals the Toxic Truth Behind the GOP's Latest Health Bill

Latest

Extremely generic Republican senator Chuck Grassley (he’s the one who’s an old white man) had a rare moment of lucid honesty on Wednesday when he spoke about the GOP’s last-minute effort to ram through its latest Obamacare repeal measure.

Speaking with a group of Iowa reporters, Grassley essentially admitted that the bill, called Graham-Cassidy for short, was, in fact, just a bullshit Hail Mary plan Republicans had forced upon themselves.

Here’s what he said:

You know, I could maybe give you 10 reasons why this bill shouldn’t be considered. But Republicans campaigned on this so often that you have a responsibility to carry out what you said in the campaign. That’s pretty much as much of a reason as the substance of the bill.

“Sure it’s trash, but we’d rather be heartless monsters than liars” is a hell of a reason to detonate the American healthcare system. But, hey, that’s the GOP for you. (Except they’re definitely liars too.)

In fairness to Chuck, though, “10 reasons why this bill shouldn’t be considered” actually seems like a pretty low estimate, given how catastrophically bad the bill is shaping up to be.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is expected to bring the Graham-Cassidy bill to the floor for a vote sometime in the coming week.
