Scenes From Pitchfork Day 2: Tune-Yards Shows Us What a Real One-Woman Band Looks Like
LatestDay 2 of the Pitchfork Music Festival featured a diverse lineup with artists ranging from longtime indie-rockers Neutral Milk Hotel, to British R&B singer FKA Twigs to the flawless St. Vincent. Here are the highlights:
Pusha T, formerly of The Clipse, hit the stage 30 minutes late, forcing him to rush through his set and stay on schedule. He performed tracks from his 2013 solo album, “My Name is My Name,” and the general consensus was that the performance was nothing to write home about. He apologized for his lateness on Twitter, a move that Pusha’s longtime pal Kanye West would likely not have approved of.
Danny Brown, the rapper who tends to talk mostly about drinking, smoking and sex stayed on brand and got the crowd warmed up ahead of performances from the day’s headliners.
Tune-Yards’ singer Merrill Garbus hit the stage with her signature glitter facepaint and proceeded to demonstrate to everyone what, exactly, a one-woman-band really is. Garbus, well-known for her live performances, drums, sings while looping her vocals and sometimes plays guitar and ukulele for good measure.
In true Pitchfork fashion, the day ended with people swaying arm-in-arm to Neutral Milk Hotel:
