Shots fired? 'Lip Sync Battle' will take on a RuPaul song

Latest

Less than a month after he called Lip Sync Battle a “poor ripoff” of his own show, RuPaul will appear on the Spike TV program—or at least one of his songs will.

A new promo clip hit the internet on Monday, revealing that Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes will lip-sync to Ru’s 1992 hit single “Supermodel (You Better Work)” on Thursday’s episode of Lip Sync Battle.

The news comes only a matter of weeks after Vulture published an interview in which RuPaul accused the program of being derivative of Logo’s RuPaul’s Drag Race, every episode of which ends with a “lip-sync for your life” battle of its own.

The timing is curious, even if it is just coincidental. But then again, what if it’s not coincidental? What if it’s Lip Sync Battle‘s way of acknowledging Ru’s comments—perhaps even dismissing them under the guise of promoting an upcoming episode? What if John Krasinski is the shadiest queen of all?

Well, it turns out that the timing is purely coincidental. A rep for NeNe Leakes confirmed in an email to Fusion that the episode was filmed months ago, before RuPaul’s Vulture interview was published on March 23. The rep also said that Leakes selected the song herself, as she is a big fan of Ru’s.

So, no drama? Okay. I guess we’ll all have to wait to get our fix on tonight’s episode of Drag Race.

Bad at filling out bios seeks same.
