Texas school rallies around black student who was harassed

At Baylor University, a conservative school in Waco, Texas, Natasha “Tasha” Nkhama says she was shoved off the sidewalk and called the n-word by a fellow student on her way to class.

She described the incident in a video her friend tweeted.

In a show of solidarity and support, Baylor students, faculty, and staff walked with Nkhama to class on Friday. The school’s student paper reports hundreds walked with her, singing Amazing Grace and carrying signs reading”#iwalkwithtasha.”

The incident is among a surge of reports involving racial harassment on college campus and elsewhere since Donald Trump was elected president Tuesday.

Many also took to social media to voice their support for Nkhama.

Nkhama handled the racism with incredible poise and grace. After the walk she addressed the group and said, “To the gentleman who said those words, I’m praying for you, and I love you.”

While Nkhama is taking the harassment in stride and the walk is a feel-good gesture many of us probably need to see right now, it reflects a bleak reality many people of color are having to endure right now, a reality everyone is responsible for fighting against.
