Thank goodness: Trump's tweets now come with a fact-check and context
LatestA new plug-in provides a fact-check and context to President-elect Donald Trump’s tweets—a necessary tool considering how often Trump takes things out of context or lies. The effort is a partnership between The Washington Post‘s Fix team and Google Chrome. Adding the plug-in to your browser will allow you to see the fact-check right on Twitter.
In a blog post announcing the plug-in, The Fix noted it’s still in the early stages:
Sometimes, we just add more context, like when Trump announced his pick of Rex Tillerson to serve as secretary of state. Curious for more info? It’s right there in the tweet now.
It takes a little while for the Chrome extension to update, so we’ll try to stay up to speed on fact-checking what Trump is tweeting, but it may take a few minutes. This is a work in progress, so don’t hesitate to offer feedback and thoughts.
While it’s great there’s an effort to make easy to figure out what Trump trying to mislead you about without leaving the web page, Twitter should offer this fact-check directly on it’s site without a plug-in. Such a move would serve the public interest and help soften the spread of Trump’s falsehoods.
