The first 'Ghostbusters' trailer is finally here and it's scary good

Latest

Today brought the first trailer for director Paul Feig’s upcoming remake of the beloved 1984 comedy Ghostbusters, starring an all-female, ridiculously stacked cast: Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon.

If it were legal for a human person to marry a trailer, I would have already proposed. This is a deftly calibrated blend of nostalgia and innovation, featuring an updated version of the unmistakable theme song, a cameo appearance by Slimer, and an updated model of the team’s trusty Ecto-1. We also get a close-up view of the movie’s gorgeously creepy ghosts (who now have the ability to possess the living, thank you but no thank you) and the Ghostbusters’ new headquarters in the apartment above a Chinese restaurant.

The ample comedic talents of the ensemble are also on full display, and their chemistry looks strong: Wiig plays physicist Erin Gilbert, McCarthy paranormal researcher Abby Yates, and Jones subway clerk Patty Tolan.

But Kate McKinnon? Kate McKinnon is a goddamn revelation. Mark our words: As weirdo engineer Jillian Holtzman, McKinnon (who, like Jones, is a current SNL cast member) is poised to become not only the movie’s breakout star, but an irresistible, oddball sex symbol.

We could not be more here for that.

Watch the first trailer for Ghostbusters, coming this summer, and prepare to swoon.
