The Forgotten Chinese American Artist Behind a Disney Animated Classic

Latest

Bambi celebrated its 75th anniversary this week. But many have probably never heard of the man who gave the film its distinct visual style—Chinese American artist Tyrus Wong.

Wong, who started at Disney in the 1930s when Asians faced widespread discrimination, became the lead artist for the film. His significant contribution and influence as a fine artist only became known and celebrated when Wong was in his 90s. He died last year at 106 years old.
