The Ocean's 8 Trailer Gives Me Hope That a Small Sliver of 2018 Will Not Be a Hellscape

From the moment the cast was announced for Ocean’s 8, the upcoming all-woman spin-off of famed heist franchise Ocean’s 11, it’s been nearly impossible to not get at least a little hyped for it. Well now we officially have a trailer for it, and the Met Ball has never looked so fun.

Here’s a reminder of the insane cast this movie has pulled together: Sandra Bullock (as Debbie Ocean, Danny’s sister), Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, and Awkwafina. OH AND RIHANNA. James Corden is also in it, which is fine! And Matt Damon and Carl Reiner will be reprising their Ocean’s 11 roles as cameos. (Though given what Damon has been saying lately while promoting his most recent film they should probably tape his mouth shut during the press tour.) And also there will be about a million other fashion world/celebrity cameos. Think Anna Winter, Serena Williams, and at least three Kardashian/Jenners. But Debbie’s allusion that the “whole family” is “like this,” presumably meaning con artist robbers, makes me wonder if Mother Ocean will be making an appearance.

As much as I’d love an all-woman heist film that doesn’t have to attach itself to a bigger franchise, I am ready for this. Should be interesting to see if Ocean’s 8 will be getting the Ghostbusters treatment, or if people are finally okay seeing women doing badass shit and having fun.
