The only good news this week is rats like being tickled—sometimes

Latest

This week has been grim. Donald Trump is going to be our president. Cops who kill unarmed black men are still not getting convicted. College students of color are being harassed on campuses around the country. But it’s Saturday night. Maybe reality has got you down and you could use a pointlessly cute video about rats being tickled. I know I could.

We can thank researchers who looked at what happens to a rat’s brain “during a tickle attack” and science news outlet Science News for the video. Click play for the ultrasonic giggles. Keep watching for the enthusiastic “joy jumps.”

Researchers found rats enjoy tickles and giggle when they’re happy but not when they’re anxious. Not sure why this is relevant to anything, but hope it made you smile. Up next: more doom and gloom.
