Empire/FOX

The numbers are in, and the season finale of Empire was huge. The two-hour episode drove FOX to the highest rated night for a broadcast network airing regular entertainment programming since 2012, according to TV by the Numbers.

Which means millions of people watched two black men get it on regular ol’ broadcast television—a truly historic night for TV.

Here’s a play by play:

Jamal walks Ryan in to Lucious Lyon’s office… with a plan in mind, obviously.

Ryan figures out the plan. “You’re father’s office, huh”

Basically they’re thinking ‘this is where we’re about to do it.’

In the last couple of months we’ve seen more gay sex on network television than we have in the last decade.  How to Get Away WIth Murder has definitely pushed the envelope but a steamy scene featuring two black men is a rare sight.

The setting was significant, too: Jamal Lyon and his cameraman Ryan hooked-up on the desk of Lucious Lyon, Jamal’s homophobic father.
