Times Square's Naked Cowboy says he's rolling in six figures

Latest

It may not seem lucrative, but playing a guitar in your underwear in Times Square now apparently nets Robert John Burck, better known as “The Naked Cowboy,” an average income of $150,000 a year.

In a new interview with CNNMoney, Burck describes how, after more than a decade in New York, he has come to make an enviable living: Most people drop cash in his guitar after taking a photo with him, amounts that have added up to hundreds of dollars a day. He’s also landed endorsement and product placement deals, has written a book, and recorded three albums.

Burck got his start in Venice Beach, Ca. but decided to permanently move to New York City early last decade with the goal of becoming “the most celebrated entertainer of all time.”

He may not be there exactly, but it mostly seems to be working out.

Rob covers business, economics and the environment for Fusion. He previously worked at Business Insider. He grew up in Chicago.
