Trump Calls Government Response Following Hurricane Maria an 'Unsung Success'

White House

As Hurricane Florence—a potentially once in a lifetime monster storm—bears down on the Eastern seaboard, President Donald Trump would like the American public to know that things are going to be completely fine. Just look at what a bang up job his administration did following Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico!

Speaking in the Oval Office on the incoming storm, Trump couldn’t help but brag about his response to Hurricane Maria, which last month was officially recognized as one of the most catastrophic natural disasters in U.S. history, with Puerto Rico’s revised death count nearing 3,000 people. Nevertheless, despite thousands dead, and a list of administrative snafus, neglect, and downright malfeasance that even FEMA couldn’t deny, Trump insisted that the way he handled the storm was “an incredible, unsung success.”

Okay dude.

“Puerto Rico was actually our toughest one of all because it’s an island,” Trump explained, demonstrating that iron clad grasp of geography he’s known for.

“I actually think it’s one of the best jobs that’s ever been done with respect to what this is all about,” he added.

This is far from the first time Trump has tooted his own diseased horn over his Puerto Rico response, of course. He’s previously bragged about the “fantastic job” he did, and insisted he’d received “tremendous reviews” for his work.

The official death toll from Hurricane Maria currently stands 2,975 people.
