Speaking with reporters on the White House lawn on Monday, President Donald Trump addressed the continuing fallout from Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation fight, painting the multiple credible allegations of sexual assault leveled against Kavanaugh as nothing more than a plot by Democrats to derail the nomination.
Addressing rumors of a possible (if extraordinarily unlikely) impeachment effort against Kavanaugh, Trump described the nominee as “a brilliant jurist, a man that did nothing wrong, a man that was caught up in a hoax that was set up by the Democrats using the Democrats’ lawyers.”
“I think it’s an insult to the American public,” Trump added.
This is unsurprisingly characteristic of Trump’s attitude towards the allegations; he previously derided the allegations against Kavanaugh as a “con job.”
Despite overwhelming and compelling evidence to the contrary, Senate Republicans touted the pathetically neutered FBI investigation into sexual assault claims made by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez as exonerating Kavanaugh of all wrongdoing.
Dr. Ford, meanwhile, remains unable to return home due to the “unending” death threats she and her family have received since she came forward with her allegations. Trump continuing to repeat this lie is sure to help.
