Trump Tweets Anti-Immigrant Screed After Spending All Weekend With Fox News Hosts

Latest

Donald Trump retreated to his safe space in Florida this weekend, where he reportedly spent tons of time with awful, anti-immigrant Fox News hosts before going on two days’ worth of Twitter rants railing against immigrants. Interesting timing!

During his three-night stay at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s private playground for the insanely wealthy, the president spent a lot of time talking with Fox News hosts Jeanine Pirro and Sean Hannity, CNN reported on Monday.

According to CNN:

Pirro and Hannity are both immigration hardliners, and made known to Trump that his party’s successes in upcoming midterm elections will depend on him being able to tout successes on the border wall.
A third Fox News hand, former executive Bill Shine, rounded out the channel’s presence at Trump’s club. Shine had been in Trump’s sights to replace Hope Hicks as White House communications director, but has told the President he isn’t interested.

Shine became a “former” Fox News executive last May after he was ousted over his alleged complicity in helping cover up Roger Ailes’ sexual harassment.

The reporting comes after Trump tweeted Fox News graphics nearly word for word over the weekend, and took DACA—the program for young immigrants that he killed—up again on Monday, tweeting: “DACA is dead because the Democrats didn’t care or act.”

It’s easy to write off tweets—even if they are from the president of the United States—but they’re often an indication of who’s in Trump’s ear and where he’s headed next. In this case, it can be nowhere good.
