United States Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell officially entered that role less than a month ago, but it seems that he’s already worn out his welcome.

Grenell, a former spokesperson for the U.S. at the United Nations under George W. Bush and a former Fox News contributor, was nominated by Donald Trump last September and confirmed by the Senate in April. Immediately after entering his new role last month, Grenell got himself in hot water with his new host country because of a tweet, because of course he did:

Apparently, countries you’re supposed to do diplomacy with don’t love it when you tell them how to conduct their own affairs. Who could have seen that coming?

But Grenell apparently doesn’t know when to take a hint, because over the weekend, he gave an explosive interview to Breitbart, in which he essentially said he wants to trigger the European libs by enabling their continent’s far-right leaders. “I absolutely want to empower other conservatives throughout Europe, other leaders,” Grenell told Breitbart. “I think there is a groundswell of conservative policies that are taking hold because of the failed policies of the left.”

In the same interview, Grenell also praised Austrian chancellor Sebastian Kurz. “Look, I think Sebastian Kurz is a rockstar,” Grenell said. “I’m a big fan.” Kurz, like Merkel, leads his country’s biggest center-right party, but unlike Merkel, he’s an anti-immigrant hardliner who formed a coalition government with his country’s largest far-right party. For that reason, the leader of Grenell’s new country isn’t such a big fan.

On Saturday, Grenell said in a tweet that it was “ridiculous” to say he’d “endorse candidates/parties.”

This is all on top of Trump’s own antagonism towards Germany, including his recent threat to push German carmakers out of the United States. So after the Breitbart interview, Agence France-Presse reports, the Germans are now just kind of sick of this dude’s shit, and want him gone.

“What this man is doing is unheard of in international diplomacy,” Martin Schulz, the former leader of Germany’s center-left Social Democratic Party (which has been a junior partner in a coalition with Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union for nearly five years), told the German news agency DPA. “If a German ambassador were to say in Washington that he is there to empower the Democrats, he would have been kicked out immediately.”

“Someone like US ambassador Richard Grenell, who thinks he can lord over Europe and determine who is governing here, can no longer stay in Germany as a diplomat,” Sahra Wagenknecht, who leads Germany’s left-wing Die Linke (The Left) party, reportedly told the German newspaper Die Welt. “If the government takes the democratic sovereignty of our country seriously, then it shouldn’t just invite Grenell to a chat over coffee, but expel him immediately.”

AFP reports that the German government is “seeking clarification” from Grenell about what he told Breitbart, and that Grenell is expected to talk about it during a pre-arranged meeting with a top official in Germany’s foreign office on Wednesday.

Today, Grenell retweeted this tweet from last year:

Should be a pretty awkward meeting.
