When most people think of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, they probably say to themselves: “Say, now there’s a wholly unqualified federal official whose abhorrent personal politics is only outweighed by his total lack of experience!” But wait, there’s more: he also makes horrid jokes.

Speaking with The Hill’s editor Bob Cusack on Wednesday, Carson razzed that HUD’s participation in the rebuilding of Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria left dozens dead, scores injured, and millions without power or clean water could take anywhere from “one to one hundred years.”

Sure, people are dropping dead on the island as we speak, but hey— now’s as good a time as any to crack wise about how some Puerto Ricans might literally never see their homes restored in their lifetime.
