Watch Congressional Shooting Hero Crystal Griner Throw the First Pitch at Softball Game

Sports

It’s been one week since a gunman opened fire on a group of Republican members of Congress at a practice for the congressional baseball charity game, but last night, the Congressional Women’s Softball Game at the Watkins Recreation Center in Washington gave us a pretty heartwarming moment. Crystal Griner, the heroic Capitol Police officer who was wounded while helping to take down shooter James Hodgkinson, threw the first pitch from her wheelchair.

Griner was shot in the ankle as she and fellow Capitol police officer David Bailey (who was also wounded) approached the gunman who had shot House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, Congressional staffer Zack Barth, and lobbyist Matt Mika. Countless witnesses and lawmakers have praised Griner and Bailey, reiterating that if it weren’t for her and her partners’ brave actions, many lives would have been lost.
