Internal Department of Justice footage obtained by ABC News shows Jeff Sessions arguing and mocking several DOJ interns who raised serious concerns about police brutality and the war on drugs during a private event held in July.

At one point in the video, an intern who identified himself as a law student at UC Berkeley challenged Sessions by invoking Philando Castile and Michael Brown, claiming, “I grew up in the projects to a single mother. And the people who we are afraid of are not necessarily our neighbors but the police.”

Sessions, clearly annoyed with the comment, did not hide his distain. “Well, that may be the view in Berkeley,” he spat, emphasizing the name of the school. “But it’s not the view in most places.”

He went on to note that violent crime occurs “in cities that have abandoned traditional police activity like Baltimore and Chicago”—two cities, he failed to mention, that have also been rocked by high-profile police killings of black men in the past several years.

At another point in the event, a different intern brought up weed. After introducing herself as a student at the University of Washington School of Law, she pointed out that, statistically, marijuana is dramatically less lethal than guns.

“You support pretty harsh policies for marijuana and pretty lax gun control laws. I’m not even sure where you stand on the assault weapons ban,” she said. “So I’d like to know, since guns kill more people than marijuana, why lax laws on one and harsh laws on the other?”

Dismissing her question as “apples and oranges,” Sessions laughed off the (extremely correct) point about gun fatalities, and claimed without evidence that last year more car accidents were caused by “drugs” than alcohol.

“Marijuana is not a healthy substance in my opinion. The American Medical Association is crystal clear on that,” he added, before asking: “Do you believe that?”

“Um... I don’t,” the intern admitted.

“Okay, Doctor...whatever-your-name-is,” Sessions responded mockingly. “So you can write the AMA and see why they think otherwise.”
