Watch: President Obama blasts ignorance in Rutgers commencement

Latest

President Obama threw shade those who praise ignorance in his commencement address at Rutgers University on Sunday.

While Obama did not mention presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump by name, he told the students to “have faith in democracy. Even if it’s not pretty. Believe me, I know.” He also insisted “ignorance is not a virtue” and “building walls will not bring change.”

Obama insisted students had to vote to bring change. “The system is not as rigged as you think, and it’s not as hopeless as you think,” he said.

He also criticized people who deny climate change.

The speech comes one week after Obama spoke at Howard University, where he also emphasized the importance of voting. At the historically black university, Obama encouraged students to embrace their heritage.
