Today, Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation just got a little bit easier. According to CNN’s sources, Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, is willing to testify to Muller that Trump had knowledge of the 2016 Trump Tower meeting at which Russians gave the campaign dirt on Hillary Clinton.

Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and many others involved in the campaign have repeatedly denied that Trump knew about the meeting.

According to CNN:

Cohen alleges that he was present, along with several others, when Trump was informed of the Russians’ offer by Trump Jr. By Cohen’s account, Trump approved going ahead with the meeting with the Russians, according to sources.

To be clear, these sources said Cohen does not have evidence, such as audio recordings, to corroborate his claim, but he is willing to attest to his account.

This is pretty big stuff, and it’s possible that it will move the needle on the Russia probe, which has now dragged on for two years. Mueller has made a few charges against Trump associates like Paul Manafort, but the investigation has yet to directly impact the administration.

But perhaps even more interesting and exciting than the revelations themselves is who helped break them: Carl Bernstein, the journalist famous as one-half of the duo who brought down Richard Nixon with their investigation into the Watergate scandal in 1974.

Bernstein appeared on Anderson Cooper 360° to discuss the story:

Bernstein, who is 74, hasn’t worked regularly for a news outlet since he quit ABC News in 1984. We can only hope that his current reporting has similar results to the work that made him famous.
