White House Releases Excerpts From State of the Union

Latest

The White House has released 19 excerpts from President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech tonight, and it appears that he thinks the state of our union is pretty good.

According to the excerpts, Trump plans to say illuminating things such as: “Together, we are building a safe, strong, and proud America,” and “As we rebuild America’s strength and confidence at home, we are also restoring strength and confidence abroad.” Trump’s approval rating is hovering around 40 percent.

“Struggling communities, especially immigrant communities,” Trump also plans to say, “will also be helped by immigration policies that focus on the best interests of American workers and American families.” Dozens of Dreamers who are attending tonight’s address might disagree with that, especially considering a GOP Congressman wants them arrested.

Trump will also say that gains are being made against ISIS, but as has been pointed out on Twitter, the White House oddly chose to highlight a section of the excerpt that makes it look like ISIS is doing a good job:

Finally, Trump will make a pitch for bipartisanship. “I am extending an open hand to work with members of both parties, Democrats and Republicans, to protect our citizens, of every background, color, and creed,” one excerpt says.

Of course, there’s a real possibility that Trump will say none of this, and instead will say “uniom” and go off on a 15-minute tangent about how David Letterman was very disrespectful to him in 1992. Either way, it’s long past time to put this whole pointless exercise to rest.
